Security notes
- SMS is convenient but less secure (SIM-swap & phishing risks)
- Use SMS as fallback — prefer an authenticator app or hardware key as primary
Common errors & fixes
| Error | Example | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Code expired | Message arrived late | Request a new code; enter within 30–60 seconds |
| Invalid code | Typo / using a prior code | Wait for the next SMS; retype carefully |
| Too many attempts | Rate limit triggered | Wait a few minutes, then try again |
| Number not accepted | Wrong format | Include country code; drop leading zero after the prefix |
| No messages received | Carrier filtering / blocked sender | Toggle airplane mode, check signal; allow short-code SMS |
Tip — If you change phone numbers, update it here first to avoid lockouts.
Best practices
- Add an authenticator app too, for stronger protection
- Keep your number up to date in Settings → Profile
- Never share codes with anyone — not even support
